Ways of Alphabetizing a Column In Microsoft Excel

1. Sort by text

First, select a cell in the column you want to sort. In the Sort and filter group in the data tab, you can either choose to quick Sort in ascending order by clicking “order A to Z” or quick Sort by descending by clicking “order Z to A.” The column you want to sort must have numbers stored as either numbers or text by Pressing Ctrl+1 to launch the Format Cells dialog, clicking the Number tab, and then, under Category, clicking General, Number, or Text.

2. Sort by numbers

Firstly, select a cell in the column you want to sort. In the Sort and filter group on the data tab, to some kind from smallest to largest, press” A to Z,” while to sort from largest to smallest, press “Z to A.” The column must contain numbers stored as numbers instead of as text.

3. Sort by dates or time

First, you want to sort and select a cell in the column. On the data tab in the Sort Order and Filter Option group, to some kind from an earlier to a later date or time, “click A to Z” while to sort from a later to earlier date or time,” click Z to A. ” The column must contain dates or times stored as dates or times instead of texts.

4. Sort through cell color, font color, or icon.

Firstly in the column you want to sort, select a cell in the Sort and filter group on the data tab and click to sort. Once you are in the sort dialog box, under a column, in the Sort by box select, you can sort the column. Under Sort, you can select Cell Color, Font Color, or Cell Icon. Under the order, click the arrow next to the button, then depending on the format type, select a cell color, font color, or cell icon. You can move the cell color, font color, or icon to the Top and select On Top for a column sort.

Move the font color, cell color, or icon to the bottom for a column sort. To choose the cell color, font color, or icon to sort by, press adds Level, and then repeat steps three through five. Select the same column in the then box and make the same selection under the order. Lastly, repeat for each additional cell color, font color, or icon you want to include in the Sort.
